                                                       WOMEN AND HOMELESSNESS

I want to take this moment to introduce myself as the  Chief Executive Officer of Hope Haven Transitional Homeless Shelter for women.  Hope Haven is a 501 (c) (3) Non Profit organization whose vision is to house and direct homeless women to the appropriate community resource for full recovery from homelessness.  On behalf of Hope Haven, its Board and Voluntary staff, I am writing to you about a subject you are becoming more and more familiar with - Homelessness.  Homelessness is about the terrible challenges faced by homeless people in our city.  Hope Haven was formed to provide a solution in the fight against homelessness.  We have been fighting this crippling menace of society by establishing a home that will house a few women.  On January 2, 2003 we opened our doors to a clean and sober free, transitional home environment for women.  I am excited to share with you, we are yet opened.  We have had some hard times, tough times, struggling times, but through it all the Lord has blessed us to REMAIN standing as we continue to open our doors for those in need of a temporary house while they prepare to transition out successfully.

We have assisted many homeless women ranging from eighteen to sixty-four years of age.  We have also housed children.  The youngest child was one week old. The oldest child was sixteen years old.

We are proud that the majority of women that we have housed have transitioned out successfully into their own places of residency.  Our women ventured into the mainstream of society through shared housing, returned to the work force, qualified for section 8, relocated to low income housing, qualified for senior housing, or reunited with families.

"YOU DID IT UNTO ME."

Matthew 25:35-40  (ESV)

35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
